Typically, female drivers tend to be able to find cheap car insurance. Unfortunately, single women in their 30’s and 40’s may find their insurance premiums going up. It may not make sense, especially if your driving record is clean, and your credit is good.
Unfortunately, when assessing female drivers that are single, insurance underwriters also think about who else might be allowed to drive the car. Naturally enough, if they cannot run a license check on a husband, they will assume you have a boyfriend. The boyfriend, in turn, might not have such a good driving record, or might not even have a valid driver’s license. If a collision happens, your insurance carrier will have to pay the bills for the actions of someone they had not factored into their profit making equations.
That said, if you want to drive a used Audi, or a used BMW, what an insurance underwriter thinks should not stop you. When it comes to paying car loans, you should at least have the satisfaction of knowing that you are paying on a car that you want. That said, if budget is an issue, you should look for cheaper cars that at least meet your traveling needs.
Even though women have a right to remain single, automobile insurance underwriters tend to penalize women for this decision. If the system seems grossly unfair, perhaps it is time to speak to government representatives, and seek changes in the laws governing auto insurance premiums. Considering this process can take years, you will need to address your daily needs in the meantime.
